Open position: Research assistant "Innopreneurship" (f/d/m, 100%, until 12/2025)

We are looking for a Research Assistant supporting Place Beyond Bytes and our new Innopreneurship program

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) at the Essen Campus, in the Faculty of Computer Science, Chair of Information Systems and Sustainable Supply Chain Management is looking for

one research assistant (f/d/m) 
(pay group 13 TV-L, 100%)

The influence of digital technologies on entrepreneurial and social fields of activity is omnipresent. At the same time, humanity is facing major challenges, from which the pressure to act and the need for innovation are derived.
Under the slogan “Towards X Futures”, we at the Chair of Information Systems and Sustainable Supply Chain Management reflect on the connections between digital and socio-ecological transformation. As managers of Place Beyond Bytes at the University of Duisburg-Essen, we are also responsible for supporting digital start-up projects at the UDE and are thus involved in the fields of action ourselves. We directly support the development of digital products and services and research their economic, ecological and social impact. The new, research-oriented Master's degree in Sustainable Innopreneurship at the Faculty of Computer Science is part of our start-up and innovation activities at UDE. At the interface to sustainability, the Master's program is aimed at students from various disciplines with a desire to participate in digital and socio-ecological transformation. Interdisciplinary in nature, various chairs within and across faculties are involved in the Master's program.

We are looking for a responsible, motivated and committed person to work in the areas of founding in innovation as a research assistant at the earliest possible date.
Your tasks:

  • You will carry out research tasks in the areas of digital innovation and digital entrepreneurship in the Excellence Startup Center project GUIDE plus
  • Together with students, you will test the development of product, service or business model innovations for a sustainable future in workshops.
  • You will publish findings from your work in international publication media and conferences. You will regularly exchange ideas in national and international networks
  • In addition, you will support the establishment of the new Master's degree course in Sustainable Innopreneurship and play an active role in shaping new processes in the teaching and organization of the course.
  • In the Master's program, you will act as a contact person for participating chairs and external partners and coordinate cross-chair modules, e.g. the Mentoring and Innopreneu- rship Challenge module.
  • Furthermore, as part of your research activities at Place Beyond Bytes, you will further develop ideas with female founders at UDE.
  • At Place Beyond Bytes, you will actively support students in the development of data-based impact ventures.

Your profile:

  • Above-average university degree in business informatics, business administration, innovation or technology management, entrepreneurship or comparable disciplines with a standard period of study of at least 8 semesters (Master's degree)
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following topics: Sustainability, Digital Entrepreneu- rship, Digital Innovation, Service Design, Digital Platforms.
  • Experience with one or more of the following methods: explorative-quantitative data analysis (with Stata, Python or R), qualitative-empirical methods (e.g. case study, interviews), de- sign science research.
  • You work independently.
  • You have a very good command of English and very good German.
